On January 12, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti. Haiti was gravely affected in 2008 by a series of hurricanes and it was recovering from the losses incurred from these natural disasters, that this earthquake struck Haiti. Preliminary estimates indicate that losses will be more severe or worse than those of hurricanes of 2008 since it was severe at 7.0 magnitudes.
The World communities are coming together in response to the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti yesterday, January 12th, 2010 just before 5:00pm. As a result of the calamity, telephone communication as well as internet communication is severely affected, making the assessment of the losses more difficult.
Initial reports suggest that the Infrastructure damage is significant, many establishments like the National Palace, National Cathedral and many Government and private buildings the U.N. Headquarters, the Hotel Montana have been severely damaged.
We share the pain of the affected people and citizens of the Haiti and pray for their well being and urge them to remain faithful and strong in the face of such adversity.
